July 21st, 2018

This year (2019) the Classical Scholar’s Exam will deal only with The Odyssey. We will be using the Fagles translation. All answers will be the names of the various characters and places. There will be both straightforward identifications, descriptions, similes and excerpts from speeches.

The questions will range from the easy, Who was the son of Odysseus?, to the more challenging, Who was the bard in the court of Alcinous?, to the truly difficult, What was the name of the last person to be eaten by Polyphemus? Most of the questions will be of only moderate difficulty.

There will be an official list of names or terms this year. This list will be published shortly. Registration is due by February 1, 2019.

All answers to these exams will come from the official lists.
