Awards: Perfect, Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medals as well as an Honorable Mention Certificate will be awarded for Levels I – III. Gold, Silver, and Bronze Ribbons and Certificates for perfect scores on the Introductory exam.

Procedure: Teachers grade their own students’ exams and report results. Teachers must decide for themselves when a misspelling amounts to a mistake. Students are not allowed to use the lists or any other reference materials while taking the exam.

A link to files containing the tests and answer sheets will be emailed to teachers in time for them to make copies of the tests for their students. Teachers will submit their results using an online form.

Syllabi: A complete list of terms and phrases is provided. The test for each level requires knowledge of the terms from the lower levels in addition to the terms for that level. (For example, students taking the Level II exam must know terms from the Introductory, Level I, and Level II lists.)

Study Suggestions: Take practice tests; do matching exercises; play CLE certamen/jeopardy; have students work in groups to compile a CLE dictionary. Previous exams and matching exercises are posted on this site.
